IMO STCW - Hours Rules

Case 1: Minimum total rest in any 24 hour period should be 10.

Case 2: Minimum total rest in each 7 day period shoud be 77.

Case 3: The minimum of 10 hours rest in any 24 hour period maybe divided into no more than 2 periods, one of which shall be at least 6 hours in length.

Case 4: The interval between consecutive periods of rest shall not exceed 14 hours.

Case 5: Parties may allow exceptions from the required hours of rest in paragraphs 2.2 and 3 above provided that the rest period is not less than 70 hours in any 70-day period. Exceptions from the weekly rest period provided in paragraph 2.2 shall not be allowed more than 2 consecutive weeks. The intervals between two periods of exceptions on board shall not be less than twice the duration of the exception.

The hours of rest provided for in paragraph 2.1 maybe divided into no more than three periods, one of which shall be at least 6 hours in length and neither of the two periods shall be less than one hour in length. The interval between consecutive periods of rest shall not exceed 14 hours. Exceptions shall not extend beyond 24-hour periods in any 7-day period.

OPA 90 - Hours Rules

Rule: OPA 90 is applicable to foreign Tankers in United States Water

Case 1: Tanker personnel work for no more than 15 hours in any 24 hours period.

Case 2: Tanker personnel work for no more than 36 hours in any 72 hour period

A Seafarer's Surname Lumayog: What is the meaning of Lumayog? The meaning of Lumayog is Go Anywhere or A travel from one place to another by sea, land or air.

Lumayog is a word within a native family in a particular place somewhere in the area of Visayas Philippines. Lumayog is a Visayan family word meaning; Go anywhere or go somewhere or a travel from one place to another by sea, land or air.  Or holding someone by using your hand or making wrestling for fun. Or to fight someone by strength of your hands to let the person be taken down.

Never do this as OOW! BNWAS - Bridge Navigational Watch Alarm System

BNWAS - Bridge Navigational Watch Alarm System.

Never do this as OOW.

There was a unforgetable moment but somewhat funny happened previously. The OOW in the open sea was alone in the bridge while his AB look-out was on the bridge wings. The call of nature has forced him to went in the toilet without pressing the BNWAS reset button first. Unfortunately, the BNWAS sounded but the OOW didn't notice it and he has to finish the call of nature because he has not feeling well of his stomach. The alarm sounded to the other OOW was on main deck and sounded to the Master Cabin. Everybody rushed to the bridge to know what happened. Then the OOW came out from the toilet and everybody can't help but laughing. The OOW was instructed to never do it again. Ask help if needed or reset the BNWAS button first before going to the toilet.
