📌 Introduction

When I was dreaming of becoming a seafarer, all I could picture were the beautiful sunrises, visiting different countries, and earning a good salary. Nobody really sat me down and told me the whole truth — the hard parts, the quiet struggles, and the things that truly matter most.

If I could go back and speak to that younger version of myself, here’s exactly what I’d say.

📝 The Honest Truth No Manual Tells You

1. 💙 The hardest part isn't the work — it's the missing

Nobody prepares you for how much it hurts to be away. You’ll miss birthdays, first steps, anniversaries, sicknesses, and quiet dinners. You’ll see milestones unfold through photos and videos, not in person. That ache doesn’t go away — you just learn to carry it gently. It’s okay to cry. It means you love deeply — and that’s a beautiful thing.

2. 💰 Money comes with a very high price tag

Yes, the salary looks good. But every peso earned represents time you can never get back — time away from the people who matter most. Be wise with it. Save before you spend. Don’t work just to earn and spend — work to build a future where one day, you can choose when to come home.

3. 🤝 You don't just work with your crew — you live with them
